Whilst vacation schemes can seem a bit daunting (they are an extended interview during which your every move is watched, after all), there’s no getting away from the fact that there really is no better way to get to know a firm. These Lex 100 winner firms have more than impressed trainees with their stellar vacation schemes. Several trainees at Farrer & Co cited the ‘enjoyable vacation scheme’ as a factor in convincing them to join the firm. Recruits at Mills & Reeve ‘thoroughly enjoyed meeting the people that were involved in the firm’ and ‘immediately felt included and able to see the great opportunities available’. At Wedlake Bell, ‘the quality of the supervision and how approachable all of the partners are’ was showcased during the vacation scheme. Browne Jacobson trainees enjoyed sampling the firm’s ‘open culture’ on its stellar vacation scheme and Burges Salmon trainees found the firm ‘friendly and welcoming, with everyone making an effort to make us feel comfortable and relaxed’ during their extended interview. One of the reasons that recruits chose Birketts over other firms was the vacation placement and trainees at Osborne Clarke noticed that the firm was ‘clearly going places even when I was doing my vac scheme and things haven’t changed’. Getting to sample a ‘small and friendly office which is a part of a large multinational network’ made for a great few weeks at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and the Mayer Brown vacation scheme can be encapsulated in one simple word: ‘excellent’.
